{"id":3497,"date":"2014-11-28T09:32:41","date_gmt":"2014-11-28T15:32:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3497"},"modified":"2023-04-10T07:54:59","modified_gmt":"2023-04-10T13:54:59","slug":"1-timothy-613-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3497","title":{"rendered":"1 Timothy 6:13-16"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span id=\"en-NKJV-29801\" class=\"text 1Tim-6-12\"><\/span> <em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29802\" class=\"text 1Tim-6-13\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29803\" class=\"text 1Tim-6-14\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ\u2019s appearing,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29804\" class=\"text 1Tim-6-15\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29805\" class=\"text 1Tim-6-16\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>gives life to all things (v.13) = preserves alive<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Timothy is stimulated to exhibit moral courage by an assurance that he is in the hands of One whose protective power is universal, and by the example of One who, as Man, put that protective power to a successful test, and was &#8220;saved out of death&#8221; (<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1734\">Hebrews 5:7<\/a><\/span>). The good confession here is the historical confession of our Lord before Pilate. This is the warrant for the truthfulness of Timothy&#8217;s confession. The mention of Pontius Pilate in connection with the crucifixion is of constant occurrence in early Christian writings. \u2014 Wuest, page 99<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>before (v.13) = in the presence of<\/h3>\n<h3>before Pontius Pilate (v.13) \u2014 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3346\">Matthew 27:11<\/a><\/span>; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=909\">John 18:36-37<\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>keep (v.14) = watch, observe, protect \u2014 given as an imperative, in the military sense<\/h3>\n<h3>commandment (v.14) \u2014 to charge certain ones not to teach any other doctrine \u2014 see <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3418\">1 Timothy 1:3-4<\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>without spot (v.14) = free from censure, irreproachable, free from vice, unsullied<\/h3>\n<h3>blameless (v.14) =\u00a0lit. \u201cnot to be laid hold upon\u201d \u2014 not open to blame in the (subjective) estimate of men \u2014 giving no grounds for accusation<\/h3>\n<h3>appearing (v.14) = shining forth \u2014 used in reference to the Lord&#8217;s birth, second coming and, here, the rapture<\/h3>\n<h3>which (v.15) \u2014 referring back to &#8220;appearing&#8221; in v.14<\/h3>\n<h3>His (v.15) = one&#8217;s own peculiar, private, personal possession<\/h3>\n<h3>time (v.15) = season \u2014 a period signaled by certain details and incidents<\/h3>\n<h3>blessed (v.15) = happy, prosperous \u2014 in His perfection and grace \u2014 used only here and in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3422\">1 Timothy 1:11<\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>only (v.15) = unique<\/h3>\n<h3>Potentate (v.15) = one possessed of power, one with the power and authority to rule, able to rule<\/h3>\n<h3>King of Kings (v.15) = King of them who reign as kings<\/h3>\n<h3>Lord of Lords (v.15) = Lord of them who reign as lords<\/h3>\n<h3>The idea here is almost certainly that Timothy can have courage to stand up for the truth because his King and Lord reigns supreme over all other kings and lords as demonstrated when Christ appeared before Pontius Pilate.<\/h3>\n<h3>immortality (v.16) = lit. &#8220;deathlessness,&#8221; incapable of dying \u2014 In the only other place where it is used in Scripture, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2535\">1 Corinthians 15:53-54<\/a><\/span>, it refers to the glorified body of the believer.<\/h3>\n<h3>dwelling (v.16) = lit. &#8220;to be at home&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Wuest&#8217;s translation \u2014 I am giving you a charge in the presence of God who is constantly preserving in life all things, and Christ Jesus, the One who in His testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good profession, preserve this commandment intact, unsullied, irreproachable, until the glorious manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ which (glorious manifestation) He will expose to the eyes in His own strategic seasons, the One who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of those who are reigning as kings, and Lord of those who are ruling as lords, who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom not even one in the human race has seen nor even is able to see, to whom be honor and power forever.
