{"id":3451,"date":"2014-09-29T10:50:11","date_gmt":"2014-09-29T16:50:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3451"},"modified":"2023-03-30T14:43:54","modified_gmt":"2023-03-30T20:43:54","slug":"1-timothy-38-13","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3451","title":{"rendered":"1 Timothy 3:8-13"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">8 Likewise deacons must be reverent, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for money,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">9 holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">10 But let these also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons, being found blameless.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">11 Likewise, their wives must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">12 Let deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">13 For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a good standing and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>likewise (v.8) \u2014 similar to bishops (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3448\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">vs. 1-7<\/span><\/a>)<\/h3>\n<h3>deacons (v.8) = servants, in relationship to their work (distinguished from &#8220;bond servants&#8221; which indicates their relationship to their masters) \u2014 The KJV includes the word &#8220;office&#8221; in verses 8 and 13. This is not in the original texts.<\/h3>\n<h3>reverent (v.8) = having gravity and dignity<\/h3>\n<h3>double-tongued (v.8) \u2014 saying one thing to one person and then another thing to another person, saying one thing while meaning another<\/h3>\n<h3>given (v.8) = attach one&#8217;s self to<\/h3>\n<h3>not greedy for money (v.8) \u2014 disgraceful gain (see <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3448\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">v.3<\/span><\/a><\/span>)<\/h3>\n<h3>mystery (v.9) \u2014 something that can only be known through divine revelation, not through human apprehension \u2014 knowledge withheld until God appoints a time and manner to reveal it.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">&#8220;The faith,&#8221; of course is the &#8220;one faith&#8221; of <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3737\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Ephesians 4:5<\/span><\/a>, the great body of doctrine committed to and proclaimed by Paul. This body of truth, as we know, was a mystery, a secret, until the glorified Lord revealed it to him (see <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3706\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Ephesians 3:1-3<\/span><\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=504\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Romans 16:25-26<\/span><\/a>).
