11\u00a0<\/sup>Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

once (v.10) = once for all, completely as opposed to once upon a time. It emphasizes the absolute sufficiency and finality of the death of Christ for all the purposes for which He died.<\/h3>\n

lives to God (v.10) \u2014 He has nothing more to do with sin<\/h3>\n

reckon (v.11) \u2014 know something to be true and live accordingly. It carries the idea of a mathematical calculation<\/h3>\n

dead (v.11)\u00a0 = dead indeed, permanent state \u2014 our spiritual condition and our attitude toward sin<\/h3>\n

Thus the redemptive work of Christ in the sinner’s behalf stands between the believer and his sins<\/em> (1 Corinthians 15:3<\/span><\/a>; Ephesians 1:7<\/span><\/a>), between the believer and his sin<\/em> (2 Corinthians 5:21<\/span><\/a>), and between the believer and his sinning<\/em> (Romans 6:1-14). \u2014 Stam, pg. 148.<\/span><\/h3>\n

God provides a way for us to escape sin. 1 Corinthians 10:13<\/span><\/a> \u2014\u00a0No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n
