{"id":334,"date":"2008-04-07T06:00:48","date_gmt":"2008-04-07T12:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/1002things.com\/?p=334"},"modified":"2022-03-17T08:22:13","modified_gmt":"2022-03-17T14:22:13","slug":"romans-65","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=334","title":{"rendered":"Romans 6:5"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-28074\" class=\"text Rom-6-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection,<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 align=\"justify\">united together \u2014 literally &#8220;planted together,&#8221; but the sense is of being united together.<\/h3>\n<h3 align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Unfortunately, the idea now associated with the verb &#8220;to plant&#8221; is far afield from the original Greek. <em>Sumphutoi<\/em> is an old verbal adjective which comes from an older Greek verb meaning &#8220;to grow together.&#8221; The most accurate rendering of this text that I have found in a modern language is that of Louis Segond, the Swiss theologian, in his French translation: &#8220;<em>For if we have become the same plant in the likeness of His death, we shall also be the same plant in the likeness of His resurrection<\/em>.&#8221; In seeking for the meaning of this passage, we are not to think of burying a seed in the ground or of grafting one plant into another. \u2014 Barnhouse, pg. 85<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>shall be \u2014 not merely future (although that is included) but an inevitable consequence now and in the future \u2014 our resurrection together with Christ results from dying together with Him.<\/h3>\n<h3 align=\"justify\">resurrection \u2014 again, not our future resurrection but out present resurrected life in Christ.<\/h3>\n<h3 align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">We were planted together with Christ, having died the same death \u2014 His death \u2014 and therefore also sharing in the same resurrection \u2014 Stam, pg. 146<\/span><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>5\u00a0For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, united together \u2014 literally &#8220;planted together,&#8221; but the sense is of being united together.
