12 Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

13 And He said to them, \u201cIt is written, \u2018My house shall be called a house of prayer,\u2019 but you have made it a \u2018den of thieves.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

14 Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

15 But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, \u201cHosanna to the Son of David!\u201d they were indignant<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

16 and said to Him, \u201cDo You hear what these are saying?\u201d And Jesus said to them, \u201cYes. Have you never read, \u2018Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants<\/span><\/em>
\nYou have perfected praise\u2019?\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

17 Then He left them and went out of the city to Bethany, and He lodged there.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

This account is also found in Mark 11:15-19<\/span><\/a> and Luke 19:45-47.<\/h3>\n

This (v.12) is the second time Jesus cleared the temple. The first was at the beginning of His ministry as recorded in\u00a0 John 2:13-22<\/span><\/a>.<\/h3>\n

money-changers (v.12) \u2014 the people were required to exchange Roman money for temple money at a rate advantageous to the temple authorities.<\/h3>\n

It is written (v.13) \u2014 from Isaiah 56:7 and Jeremiah 7:11 in the Septuagint<\/h3>\n

Do You hear what these are saying? (v.16) \u2014 The crowd, which apparently included young boys just beginning their religious training, was calling Jesus “Son of David,” which is the same as calling Him Messiah.<\/h3>\n

Have you never read (v.16) \u2014 from Psalm 8:2<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n

Bethany (v.17) \u2014 a village on the eastern side of the Mount of Olives about a mile east of Jerusalem \u2014 where Lazarus and his sisters lived.<\/h3>\n

This took place on Monday.<\/h3>\n

According to Jewish tradition, this was the day the lamb was selected to be slain and eaten for the Passover.
