1 Now when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

2\u00a0<\/sup>saying to them, \u201cGo into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

3\u00a0<\/sup>And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, \u2018The Lord has need of them,\u2019 and immediately he will send them.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

4\u00a0<\/sup>All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying:<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

5\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cTell the daughter of Zion, \u2018Behold, your King is coming to you, Lowly, and sitting on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

6\u00a0<\/sup>So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them. <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

7\u00a0<\/sup>They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

This begins the final six days before Christ’s crucifixion.<\/h3>\n

This account also appears in Mark 11:1-10<\/span><\/a>; Luke 19:29-38; John 12:12-19<\/span><\/a>.<\/h3>\n

Bethphage (v.1) \u2014 a village near Bethany, a mile east of Jerusalem, on the eastern side of the Mount of Olives. The name means “house of unripe figs.”<\/h3>\n

two disciples (v.1) \u2014 Mark’s details may indicate that Peter was one (because Mark’s account came from Peter), so the other one may have been John.<\/h3>\n

The quote in verse 5 is from Isaiah 62:11 and Zechariah 9:9, from the Septuagint.<\/h3>\n
