But when the multitudes heard it, they followed Him on foot from the cities.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">14\u00a0And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">15\u00a0When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, \u201cThis is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">16\u00a0But Jesus said to them,\u00a0\u201cThey do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">17\u00a0And they said to Him, \u201cWe have here only five loaves and two fish.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">18\u00a0He said,\u00a0\u201cBring them here to Me.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">19\u00a0Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">20\u00a0So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">21\u00a0Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>This is the only miracle (except the resurrection) that appears in all four gospels \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=8941\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Mark 6:30-44<\/span><\/a>; Luke 9:10-17; <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=650\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">John 6:1-13<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<h3>heard it (v.13) \u2014 John&#8217;s death, or that Herod had heard of His ministry (or both)<\/h3>\n<h3>Herod never saw Jesus until His trial, at which time Jesus refused to speak in his presence.<\/h3>\n<h3>evening (v.15) \u2014 probably around 3:00 p.m. by Jewish reckoning<\/h3>\n<h3>five loaves and two fish (v.17) \u2014 the meal of a boy, discovered by Andrew.
