{"id":2816,"date":"2014-01-01T05:21:18","date_gmt":"2014-01-01T11:21:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2816"},"modified":"2025-06-19T07:53:40","modified_gmt":"2025-06-19T13:53:40","slug":"matthew-918-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2816","title":{"rendered":"Matthew 9:18-26"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">18\u00a0While He spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped Him, saying, \u201cMy daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her and she will live.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">19\u00a0So Jesus arose and followed him, and so\u00a0did\u00a0His disciples.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">20\u00a0And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">21\u00a0For she said to herself, \u201cIf only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">22\u00a0But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said,\u00a0\u201cBe of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.\u201d\u00a0And the woman was made well from that hour.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">23\u00a0When Jesus came into the ruler\u2019s house, and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">24\u00a0He said to them,\u00a0\u201cMake room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.\u201d\u00a0And they ridiculed Him.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">25\u00a0But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">26\u00a0And the report of this went out into all that land.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>This account also appears in <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=8918\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Mark 5:22-43<\/span><\/a> and Luke 8:41-56.<\/h3>\n<h3>ruler (v.18) \u2014 Jairus, a ruler in the local synagogue<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">blood (v.20) \u2014 By reason of her trouble, she was excommunicated religiously. The Hebrew economy did not permit a woman so suffering to take any part or place in the worship of God. She was shut out from temple and synagogue worship. She was divorced from her husband by the same law. She was ostracized from society. \u2014 Morgan, page 95.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>hem (v.20) \u2014 Law-abiding Jews wore a blue ribbon in the hem of their tunics (Numbers 15:38-41; Deuteronomy 22:12).<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The woman&#8217;s action was significant. A subject knelt to touch the hem of a king&#8217;s robe to show loyalty and submission to his authority. Such an action preceded the presentation of a request to the king by the subject.
