14\u00a0Now when Jesus had come into Peter\u2019s house, He saw his wife\u2019s mother lying sick with a fever.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

15\u00a0So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

16\u00a0When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

17\u00a0that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:\u00a0\u201cHe Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

This occasion is also reported in Mark 1:29-34<\/span><\/a> and Luke 4:38-41.<\/h3>\n

Luke the physician noted that she had had a high fever, using a Greek tense that stressed its continuous, and perhaps chronic, nature. She was seriously ill.
