{"id":2714,"date":"2013-11-27T05:00:07","date_gmt":"2013-11-27T11:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2714"},"modified":"2025-05-31T07:40:34","modified_gmt":"2025-05-31T13:40:34","slug":"matthew-418-22","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2714","title":{"rendered":"Matthew 4:18-22"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>Then He said to them,\u201cFollow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>They immediately left\u00a0their\u00a0nets and followed Him.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James\u00a0the son\u00a0of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>Simon &#8230; and Andrew (v.18) \u2014 They had met Jesus on an earlier occasion in Judea (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=552\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">John 1:40-42<\/span><\/a>) where they had probably gone to be baptized by John the Baptist.<\/h3>\n<h3>Luke 5:1-11 seems to be an account of a different occasion.<\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret,\u00a0and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing\u00a0their\u00a0nets.\u00a0Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon\u2019s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.\u00a0When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon,\u00a0\u201cLaunch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.\u201d\u00a0But Simon answered and said to Him, \u201cMaster, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.\u201d\u00a0And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.\u00a0So they signaled to\u00a0their\u00a0partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.\u00a0When Simon Peter saw\u00a0it,\u00a0he fell down at Jesus\u2019 knees, saying, \u201cDepart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!\u201d\u00a0For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken;\u00a0and so also\u00a0were\u00a0James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon,\u00a0\u201cDo not be afraid. From now on you will catch men.\u201d\u00a0So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">It could be that &#8230; between this first call of Matthew and the call in Luke, the early disciples continued to fish for a time and not until the call in Luke 5 did they forsake all.
