12<\/sup> giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

13<\/sup> He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

14<\/sup> in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

Paul lists four things for which we should be thankful:<\/h3>\n

    We are made partakers of the inheritance of the saints (v.12)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n
  2. \n

    We are delivered from the power of darkness (v.13)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n
  3. \n

    We are translated into the kingdom of the Son (v.13)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n
  4. \n

    We are redeemed (v.14)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    qualified (v.12) = fit, sufficient, competent \u2014 In ourselves, we have no fitness to be partakers of the inheritance. The tense indicates a one-time event, not a process.<\/h3>\n

    inheritance (v.12) \u2014 and, therefore, not earned or merited but conferred upon us based on a relationship<\/h3>\n

    light (v.12) \u2014 heavenly, contrasted with darkness (v.13)<\/h3>\n

    delivered (v.13) = rescued, liberated<\/h3>\n

    power (v.13) = authority, right to act<\/h3>\n

    darkness (v.13) \u2014 ignorance, falsehood, sin \u2014 with the idea of tyranny<\/h3>\n

    conveyed (v.13) = translated, removed from one country and established as a colonist and citizen of another country \u2014 again, a one-time event<\/h3>\n

    kingdom (v.13) = Christ’s sovereign rule<\/h3>\n

    the Son of His love (v.13) \u2014 Christ partakes of and manifests the Father’s love<\/h3>\n

    in whom (v.14) \u2014 Our redemption and forgiveness are due to our union with Christ.<\/h3>\n

    redemption (v.14) = release from captivity or slavery by the payment of a price, ransom<\/h3>\n

    forgiveness (v.14) = a sending away \u2014 the removal of our sins \u2014 the central feature of our redemption<\/h3>\n
