{"id":1907,"date":"2012-01-15T05:00:20","date_gmt":"2012-01-15T11:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1907"},"modified":"2022-02-23T13:15:22","modified_gmt":"2022-02-23T19:15:22","slug":"acts-2028-31","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1907","title":{"rendered":"Acts 20:28-31"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup id=\"en-NKJV-27651\">28<\/sup> Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup id=\"en-NKJV-27652\">29<\/sup> For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup id=\"en-NKJV-27653\">30<\/sup> Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup id=\"en-NKJV-27654\">31<\/sup> Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>take heed (v.28) \u2014 <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3469\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1 Timothy 4:16<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">overseers (v.28) \u2014 Throughout the New Testament, the terms [elder and overseer] denote two aspects of the same office, the former pointing to the minister&#8217;s weight of years and standing, and the latter to his work of supervision. \u2014 Walker, page 448.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>purchased (v.28) = made His own \u2014 acquired for one&#8217;s own possession. It doesn&#8217;t include the idea of buying something from another.<\/h3>\n<h3>with His own blood (v.28) \u2014 The blood was Christ&#8217;s, but as Christ was God, it is right to speak of it as God&#8217;s blood. Some say it should be translated &#8220;with the blood of His own.&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">men will rise up (v.30) \u2014 We are given ample confirmation of the truth of his warning. It was not long before Hymenaeus and Alexander had &#8220;made shipwreck&#8221; of the faith and had become blasphemers (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3431\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1 Timothy 1:19-20<\/span><\/a>). And this Hymenaeus, along with another, Philetus, succeeded in <em>&#8220;overthrowing the faith of some&#8221;<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3544\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Timothy 2:17-18<\/span><\/a>). Indeed, in his last letter the apostle had to write to Timothy: <em>&#8220;This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me&#8221;<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3528\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Timothy 1:15<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">It is granted that the &#8220;all&#8221; here may refer to a certain company which Timothy would recognize, or to the believers in Asia as a body.
