{"id":1803,"date":"2012-08-10T05:00:33","date_gmt":"2012-08-10T11:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1803"},"modified":"2023-06-06T08:08:25","modified_gmt":"2023-06-06T14:08:25","slug":"hebrews-1032-39","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1803","title":{"rendered":"Hebrews 10:32-39"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup id=\"en-NKJV-30162\">32<\/sup> But recall the former days in which, after you were illuminated, you endured a great struggle with sufferings:<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup id=\"en-NKJV-30163\">33<\/sup> partly while you were made a spectacle both by reproaches and tribulations, and partly while you became companions of those who were so treated;<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup id=\"en-NKJV-30164\">34<\/sup> for you had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup id=\"en-NKJV-30165\">35<\/sup> Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup id=\"en-NKJV-30166\">36<\/sup> For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup id=\"en-NKJV-30167\">37<\/sup> \u201c For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup id=\"en-NKJV-30168\">38<\/sup> Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup id=\"en-NKJV-30169\">39<\/sup> But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">recall (v.32) \u2014 habitually<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">illuminated (v.32) \u2014 enlightened by the Holy Spirit (<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1274\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Acts 2:13<\/span><\/a><\/span>; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1640&amp;preview=true\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Hebrews 2:4<\/span><\/a><\/span>; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1743&amp;preview=true\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">6:4<\/span><\/a><\/span>)<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The writer appeals to their faith in past afflictions to encourage the Jews to be faithful in their current afflictions.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">spectacle (v.33) = lit. &#8220;to bring upon the stage&#8221; \u2014 exposed by shame or by shameful treatment. The Greek is <em>theatrizo<\/em> from which we get &#8220;theater.&#8221;<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">reproaches (v.33) = contemptuous defamation<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">tribulations (v.33) = pressure \u2014 what weighs down the spirit<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">companions (v.33) \u2014 they suffered from seeing others persecuted and from helping them (financially?)<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">me in my chains (v.34) \u2014 probably should be &#8220;them that were in bonds&#8221;<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">goods (v.34) = possessions \u2014 they lost their possessions<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">knowing (v.34) \u2014 from experience<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">in heaven (v.34) \u2014 not in the best manuscripts (perhaps added by a translator who was trying to make this apply to Christians and not just believing Jews)<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">confidence (v.35) = freedom in speaking, cheerful courage<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">patience (v.36) = lit. &#8220;to remain under&#8221; \u2014 so, remain under persecution and don&#8217;t seek to escape it by returning to Judaism.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">receive (v.36) = receive and carry away for use and enjoyment<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Verse 37 is a quote from Habakkuk 2:3 \u2014 He refers to Christ<\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He who is coming (v.37) = lit. &#8220;the Coming One&#8221; (Revelation 1:8)<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">a little while (v.37) = lit. &#8220;for yet a little \u2014 a very little \u2014 while&#8221;<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the just shall live by faith (v.38) \u2014 Habakkuk 2:4; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=251\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Romans 1:17<\/span><\/a><\/span>; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1028\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Galatians 3:11<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">draws back (v.38) \u2014 with the sense of a deliberate action<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">we (v.39) \u2014 emphatic<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">perdition (v.39) \u2014 not &#8220;loss of being&#8221; but &#8220;loss of well-being&#8221;<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">saving (v.39) = obtaining, gaining, possessing<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Terrible sufferings are in store for those who find themselves in Daniel&#8217;s seventieth week, the time of Jacob&#8217;s trouble.
