{"id":1750,"date":"2012-06-17T05:00:05","date_gmt":"2012-06-17T11:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1750"},"modified":"2023-05-26T14:56:53","modified_gmt":"2023-05-26T20:56:53","slug":"hebrews-71-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1750","title":{"rendered":"Hebrews 7:1-3"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup id=\"en-NKJV-30062\">1<\/sup> For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup id=\"en-NKJV-30063\">2<\/sup> to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all, first being translated \u201cking of righteousness,\u201d and then also king of Salem, meaning \u201cking of peace,\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup id=\"en-NKJV-30064\">3<\/sup> without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>Melchizedek (v.1) \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4696\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Genesis 14:18-20<\/span><\/a>; Psalm 110:4<\/h3>\n<h3>Salem (v.1) \u2014 later Jerusalem \u2014 the word means &#8220;peace&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3>Abraham gave (v.2) \u2014 Abraham acknowledged Melchizedek as a priest<\/h3>\n<h3>king of righteousness (v.2) \u2014 This is what &#8220;Melchizedek&#8221; means<\/h3>\n<h3>king of peace (v.2) \u2014 where he was from (Salem)<\/h3>\n<h3>without father, without mother (v.3) \u2014 Some commentaries say that this simply means that his genealogy isn&#8217;t recorded in Scripture, but I was taught that it was evidence that he was the pre-incarnate Christ.
