{"id":1180,"date":"2011-02-19T05:00:47","date_gmt":"2011-02-19T11:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1180"},"modified":"2023-01-19T07:52:53","modified_gmt":"2023-01-19T13:52:53","slug":"philippians-225-30","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1180","title":{"rendered":"Philippians 2:25-30"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">25 Yet I considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, but your messenger and the one who ministered to my need; <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">26 since he was longing for you all, and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick. <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">27 For indeed he was sick almost unto death; but God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">28 Therefore I sent him the more eagerly, that when you see him again you may rejoice, and I may be less sorrowful. <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness, and hold such men in esteem; <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">30 because for the work of Christ he came close to death, not regarding his life, to supply what was lacking in your service toward me. <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>I considered (v.25) \u2014 present tense \u2014 I think. I am sending \u2014 after weighing the facts<\/h3>\n<h3>Epaphroditus (v.25) \u2014 lit. &#8220;charming&#8221; \u2014 named (by pagan parents) after the goddess Aphrodite<\/h3>\n<h3>brother (v.25) \u2014 in the Lord<\/h3>\n<h3>fellow worker (v.25) = &#8220;a worker with&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3>fellow soldier (v.25) \u2014 shared with Paul in spiritual warfare<\/h3>\n<h3>your messenger (v.25) \u2014 lit. &#8220;apostle&#8221; \u2014 one who is sent on a special service<\/h3>\n<h3>ministered (v.25) \u2014 representative service<\/h3>\n<h3>longing (v.26) \u2014 tense indicates &#8220;has been and is longing&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3>distressed (v.26) \u2014 not knowing what to do for relief<\/h3>\n<h3>sick (v.26) \u2014 Paul, evidently no longer exercised the gift of healing. In this case, Paul gives all the credit to God.<\/h3>\n<h3>almost unto (v.27) = alongside of a neighbor. Ephaphroditus and death were next-door neighbors.<\/h3>\n<h3>sorrow upon sorrow (v.27) \u2014 sorrow in addition to his imprisonment and his own thorn in the flesh.
