{"id":1173,"date":"2011-02-13T05:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-02-13T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1173"},"modified":"2023-01-18T08:27:46","modified_gmt":"2023-01-18T14:27:46","slug":"philippians-214-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1173","title":{"rendered":"Philippians 2:14-16"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">14 Do all things without complaining and disputing, <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">16 holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain. <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>complaining (v.14) \u2014 secret debate (of a moral character) \u2014 secret discontent<\/h3>\n<h3>disputing (v.14) \u2014 can be inward questioning (of an intellectual character) against another person or against God \u2014 rationalizing and calculating<\/h3>\n<h3>blameless (v.15) \u2014 without fault, without grounds for a charge \u2014 outward expression of moral integrity<\/h3>\n<h3>harmless (v.15) = should be &#8220;unmixed, pure&#8221; \u2014 discerning evil and choosing only good<\/h3>\n<h3>children of God (v.15) \u2014 the Greek stresses &#8220;birth which manifests the likeness of the begetter&#8221; \u2014 resembling the father<\/h3>\n<h3>without fault (v.15) = some texts have &#8220;without blemish&#8221; \u2014 inward condition<\/h3>\n<h3>crooked (v. 15) = perverse, having departed from the truth<\/h3>\n<h3>perverse (v.15) = having been turned out of the way, warp, pervert, twist<\/h3>\n<h3>shine (v.15) \u2014 should be &#8220;appear,&#8221; be recognized \u2014 a statement, not a command.<\/h3>\n<h3>lights (v.15) = light-bearers \u2014 We aren&#8217;t light, but we reflect Christ, who is<\/h3>\n<h3>world (v.15) \u2014 present order of human affairs in opposition to God<\/h3>\n<h3>holding fast (v.16) = holding out so as to offer<\/h3>\n<h3>word of life (v.16) \u2014 the gospel<\/h3>\n<h3>rejoice (v.16) \u2014 have a glorying, boast<\/h3>\n<h3>day of Christ (v. 16) \u2014 beginning with the Rapture and continuing (see <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1126\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Philippians 1:6<\/span><\/a>)<\/h3>\n<h3>labored (v.16) \u2014 to exhaustion<\/h3>\n<h3>Paul did not want his exhortation to the Philippians believers, that they reflect Christ in the world, to be without effect.
