In Greek, &#8220;if&#8221; assumes that what is referred to is true.<\/h3>\n<h3>consolation (v.1) = encouragement \u2014 toward spiritual activity<\/h3>\n<h3>in Christ (v.1) \u2014 available because of our union with Him<\/h3>\n<h3>comfort of love (v.1) \u2014 the tender, joyful effect of love \u2014 love as an incentive to action<\/h3>\n<h3>fellowship of the Spirit (v.1) \u2014 because believers share the Spirit and His ministry, they have a motive for unity, sympathy and love<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">In view of the fact that there is a certain ground of appeal in Christ which exhorts, since there is a certain tender persuasion that comes from divine love, in view of the fact that there is a certain joint-participation with the Spirit in a common interest and activity, since there are certain tenderheartednesses and compassionate yearnings and actions &#8230; \u2014 Wuest, pages 58-59<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>affection (v.1) \u2014 inward feelings, compassions \u2014 the outward expression of those feelings<\/h3>\n<h3>fulfill my joy (v.2) \u2014 Paul already (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1122\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1:4<\/span><\/a>) expressed his joy at their faith, but he wants them to complete it decisively and wholeheartedly.
