Not affection (which is emotional). This love is in conjunction with knowledge and judgment.<\/h3>\n<h3>may abound (v.9) \u2014 not just toward Paul. This love toward God expresses itself toward others<\/h3>\n<h3>in knowledge \u2014 not impulsively. With intelligence, worthily. <em>Epignosis <\/em>is always spiritual knowledge, either in full or increasing \u2014 true knowledge (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2042\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Colossians 1:9-10<\/span><\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2092\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">3:10<\/span><\/a>). Knowledge gained by experience (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3439\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1 Timothy 2:4<\/span><\/a>).<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">&#8220;Knowledge&#8221; is from the Greek word speaking of knowledge gained by experience, as contrasted to intuitive knowledge, which is from another word. A prefixed preposition intensifies the word, and we have &#8220;full knowledge.&#8221; The full knowledge which these Philippians needed to gain by experience was a better understanding of God&#8217;s Word as translated into their experience, and a clearer vision of the Lord Jesus in all the beauty and fragrance of His Person. A Christian can have an &#8220;understanding&#8221; knowledge of the Word, that is, be able to explain its meaning to others, without having an experiential knowledge of the same. But when that Christian has put the Word of God into practice in his life, then he has what Paul is talking about here. \u2014 <em>Philippians in the Greek New Testament<\/em>, by Kenneth S. Wuest, page 35-36<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>all (v.9) = every kind of sensitivity to moral values<\/h3>\n<h3>discernment (v.9) \u2014 spiritual judgment\/discretion<\/h3>\n<h3>approve (v.10) = test and choose<\/h3>\n<h3>things that are excellent (v.10) = things that differ (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4285\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1 Thessalonians 5:21<\/span><\/a>). A sorting into two piles. Separating the true from the false and rejecting the false.<\/h3>\n<h3>sincere (v.10) \u2014 unmixed, pure<\/h3>\n<h3>without offense (v.10) \u2014 not stumbling or causing to stumble<\/h3>\n<h3>day of Christ (v.10) \u2014 a reminder of the rewards and judgments to come<\/h3>\n<h3>filled (v.11) \u2014 tense is &#8220;present results of past actions&#8221; \u2014 filled to the brim with no room for anything else.<\/h3>\n<h3>fruit (not plural) of righteousness (v.11) \u2014 the fruit of the Spirit.
